Title | Energy Efficient, Sustainable & Smart Strategy for Ministry of Health |
Description | The Energy Efficient, Sustainable & Smart Strategy for the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic was implemented between October 2022 and June 2023 with the goal of reducing energy consumption, improving efficiency, and supporting climate resilience in the public sector. The project involved a comprehensive analysis of energy usage across the Ministry’s facilities, covering electricity, natural gas, central heating, and water consumption over a three-year period (2020–2023). Based on this data, both non-investment and investment measures were proposed to optimize resource deployment, cut energy use, and lower operational costs in the context of ongoing energy and climate challenges. In addition, the project calculated the carbon footprint in CO₂ equivalents according to the AR5 methodology of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and evaluated water consumption to identify cost-saving opportunities. A key innovation of the project was the use of a GIS-based methodology for data collection and evaluation, combined with modern software visualization tools. This approach enabled more accurate mapping of energy needs, improved assessment of building conditions, and provided decision-makers with clear insights for strategic planning. Led by the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic and supported financially by the Ministry of Interior through the Operational Programme Effective Public Administration, the project represents an important step towards embedding energy efficiency, sustainability, and smart solutions into public sector governance. It demonstrates how data-driven strategies can contribute to both cost reductions and the achievement of climate goals, offering a replicable model for other public institutions across the region. |
