TitleSmart Parking Systems
DescriptionThe Smart Parking System in Podgorica, launched in 2018, is a key element of the city’s smart city strategy to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion. Using sensors and digital technology, the system helps drivers locate available parking spaces in real time, while also integrating with a mobile app for reserving spots and enabling cashless payments. Two automated parking lots have already been installed on major boulevards, with more in development, and 20 LED information boards across the city display available parking in real time, with further expansion planned. The project’s main goals are to promote sustainable urban mobility through smart infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion, lower CO₂ emissions by minimizing unnecessary driving, and enhance the overall convenience and quality of life for citizens. Given its scalability, modest infrastructure requirements, and demonstrated impact on traffic management, the Podgorica Smart Parking System serves as a replicable model for other medium-sized cities across the Danube region that are facing similar challenges with urban mobility and congestion.
