| Description | This article presents Interreg as the EU’s key territorial cooperation instrument supporting cross-border, transnational and interregional collaboration, with climate action mainstreamed across its 2021–2027 thematic priorities. It explains how the objective “A greener Europe” enables funding for climate mitigation, adaptation, risk prevention, biodiversity protection and low-carbon transitions. The article outlines the four Interreg strands (A–D) and shows how each can address climate challenges at different territorial scales, from local cross-border risks to macro-regional and outermost region vulnerabilities. It also highlights typical climate-relevant themes such as nature-based solutions, renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate-resilient governance. Overall, the article positions Interreg as a practical funding pathway for joint, place-based climate solutions across Europe. |
